The administration is seeking up to $100 billion in private investment to rebuild Venezuela’s energy infrastructure and boost production, while the US retains operational control over oil sales.
Trump reiterated that American companies dealing in Venezuela’s oil won’t negotiate with Caracas directly — they will deal with the United States government, which plans to oversee future exports and ensure security for investing firms.
This move follows a series of Venezuela-linked oil tanker seizures by U.S. forces — part of a wider blockade known as Operation Southern Spear, aimed at curbing sanctioned oil shipments and asserting control over Venezuela’s petroleum trade.
