China on Monday expressed opposition to the use of tariffs as a means to pressure other countries. This statement came from the Chinese foreign ministry on July 7, following a threat by US President Donald Trump to impose an additional 10% tariff on BRICS nations over alleged "anti-American policies”. Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, said at a regular press conference that the use of tariffs benefits no one. She also added that the BRICS grouping promotes openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation.
