LIVE: Supreme Court verdict on Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam bail | 2020 Delhi Riots Case Hearing News
The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on the bail pleas of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and other accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, who have been incarcerated for nearly six years under the UAPA. A bench headed by Justice Arvind Kumar will decide on the appeals against the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant bail. The bulletin also highlights a speech from an unidentified speaker who calls for a ‘plan of action’ beyond sensitization. The speaker states, ‘If we have a critical mass of people, then what should we do? What can we do?’ The prosecution argues the riots were a larger conspiracy, while the defence emphasizes that prolonged incarceration without trial makes bail imperative.
