LIVE: PM Narendra Modi’s First Independence Day Speech at Red Fort, New Delhi
As Prime Minister Modi nears his 11th Independence Day Address from the Ramparts of the Red Fort, the video throws back to the Prime Minister’s 1st speech on the occasion in 2014. Addressing the nation on India’s 68th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi spoke extempore from Lal Qila without any bullet proof glass, which was a break away from tradition. Prime Minister Modi used his first Red Fort Speech to lay down what his vision for India was.
Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day Speech began by introducing himself as the Prime Servant of India, and not the Prime Minister. Bowing down to all freedom fighters who had dedicated their lives for India’s independence, Prime Minister Modi said that Independence Day is an occasion to “take a pledge for the welfare of all those who are down trodden, poor, exploited and oppressed, and to do something for them”.
From the Red Fort in 2014, Prime Minister Modi at his first Independence Day speech reached out to “125 crore countrymen”, celebrating their resolve to unitedly take India forward. Laying great emphasis on the mindset on the girl child and women’s safety in India, Prime Minister Modi said, “Parents ask a number of questions when a daughter goes out, but do they ever have the courage to ask their son about his friends or where is he going or why. After all a rapist is also someone’s son.”
