LIVE: Massive Protests Erupt In Tel Aviv To Demand End To Gaza War And Release Of Hostages
In a historic outpouring of unity, hundreds of thousands of Israelis flooded the streets of Tel Aviv on August 17, 2025, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of hostages held by Hamas. Organized by groups representing hostage families, the protests, which included a nationwide strike, saw up to 500,000 people at Hostages Square, with demonstrations spreading to Jerusalem, Haifa, and beyond. Protesters criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for its handling of the captive crisis and plans for a new military offensive in Gaza City, voicing fears over the worsening humanitarian crisis and the safety of the remaining 50 hostages, of whom only about 20 are believed to be alive. The rally featured emotional speeches from families and former hostages, with some businesses closing in solidarity.
