In a shocking development, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah has confirmed the death of the country’s army chief of staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, along with four senior officials in a plane crash near Ankara, Turkey. The Dassault Falcon 50 jet took off from Esenboga Airport after an official visit where Al-Haddad met Turkish defence leaders to strengthen military ties. Just 40 minutes into the flight, air traffic controllers lost contact after the plane issued an emergency landing signal over Haymana district. Wreckage was soon located, confirming no survivors. The victims include advisor Mohammed Al-Assawi, Major General Al-Fitouri Ghraibil, Major General Mohammed Jumaa, and escort Mohammed Al-Mahjoub. This incident comes a day after Turkey extended its military mandate in Libya, highlighting close Ankara-Tripoli relations. Dbeibah described it as a profound loss for the nation and armed forces.
