Donald Trump Addresses Nation After US Strikes on Venezuela and Capture of President Maduro
United States President Donald Trump, in a phone interview with US media, stated that he watched the late-night US airstrikes on Venezuela live from Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. He also praised the US Army for doing an “incredible job”.
American forces carried out an unprecedented operation in and around Venezuela’s capital city Caracas that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
Narrating how he watched the massive airstrikes from the resort, Trump said, “I watched it literally like I was watching a television show…We had a room, and we watched it, and we watched every aspect of it. We were surrounded by lots of people, including generals, and they knew everything that was happening. And it was very complex, extremely complex, the whole manoeuvre, the landings, the number of aircraft, which were a massive number, the number of helicopters, a different type of helicopters, different type of fighter jets.”
He added, “I was able to watch it in real time, and I watched every aspect of it.”
Trump lauded the US Army and stated that there was no casualty from the American side. Calling this “amazing”, Trump said, “And to have a few injuries but no death on our side is really amazing.” His remarks come amid reports of innocent civilians and troops of Venezuela being killed in the multiple rounds of explosions in Caracas.
Trump also praised the speed of the airstrikes, saying, “If you would have seen the speed, the violence…it was an amazing thing, an amazing job that these people did.”
The explosions occurred amid sharply heightened tensions between the United States and Venezuela, as President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of presiding over what he has described as a "narco-terrorist" government. The US has also imposed sanctions on vessels it claims are involved in transporting Venezuelan oil.
Earlier in 2025, the United States had announced a $50 million bounty for any information that could lead to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. The United States has repeatedly accused Nicolás Maduro of running a transnational drug-trafficking network, an allegation the Venezuelan leader has consistently denied.
After capturing Maduro today, the USA has indicted him on several charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy into the United States, possession and conspiracy to possess machineguns and destructive devices in connection with those drug offenses.
