LIVE: China’s AI Bot DeepSeek Ends ChatGPT’s Reign On Apple’s App Store In The United States
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently took to X (formerly Twitter) praising the debut of its rival, a Chinese AI startup called DeepSeek. Currently, DeepSeek has released the R1 and R1 zero, but Altman is quite impressed with the first one. In the post, he said that given the price the company is charging for its services, DeepSeek’s R1 model is "an impressive model". For perspective, according to a post on DeepSeek’s official WeChat account, the recently launched DeepSeek-R1 is 20 to 50 times more cost-effective than OpenAI’s o1 model, depending on the specific task.
