LIVE: Activist Greta Thunberg Arrives In Greece’s Athens After Aid Flotilla Detainment
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has landed at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport on October 6, 2025, alongside over 170 deported activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla. The group was detained by Israeli forces last week while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid— including food, water, medicine, and baby formula—to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. Israel intercepted 44 vessels in international waters, detaining around 470 people from 46 nationalities, labeling the mission a "publicity stunt." Thunberg and others allege inhumane treatment during detention at Ktzi’ot Prison, including due process violations and physical/mental abuse, though Israel denies these claims.
