In an exclusive interview, Adel Nassar, Lebanon’s Minister of Justice, spoke from Beirut about the devastating impact of the Israel-Lebanon conflict. He revealed that more than 1,000 people have been killed, thousands injured, and over 1 million displaced from their homes. Nassar described massive destruction of homes and businesses, stating, ‘We are facing a dramatic situation with very limited resources.’ He emphasised Lebanon’s internal challenge with Hezbollah operating weapons outside state control, saying this ‘impairs the capacity of the state to face Israeli attacks through diplomatic channels.’ Nassar explained that Lebanon has opened the door for negotiations, believing diplomatic channels are the proper way forward. He criticised Hezbollah’s narrative of resistance, noting that since 2000, their operations have not been genuine resistance. The Minister stressed that Lebanon’s existential priority is implementing a monopoly of force and staying away from regional conflicts.
