Questioning the scale of the event, Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘why spend huge sums on Diwali BIAs? Instead, learn from Christians how they celebrate Christmas’. The remarks drew sharp condemnation from the BJP, which accused the SP of being ‘anti-Hindu’ and ‘anti-Sanatan’. BJP leaders stated they don’t need lessons from a party that allegedly kept Ayodhya in darkness for years and took pride in attacking ‘Ram Bhakts’, a historical reference to the firing on Karsevaks in 1990.
