K. Annamalai affirmed that Edappadi Palaniswami is the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Acknowledging a shift in his own previous stance, the speaker, who months ago would have advocated for the BJP to contest independently, now supports the alliance with the AIADMK, deferring to the party leadership’s pragmatic decision. The speaker stated, ‘the leadership is looking at some of the things which we are not seeing.’ The goal is to install an AIADMK chief minister and increase the number of BJP MLAs. While declining to comment on the internal affairs of the AIADMK, the speaker expressed a desire for a unified front to effectively challenge the DMK, emphasizing that every vote is crucial.
