Violent protests have erupted in the Union Territory of Ladakh, resulting in four deaths and over 70 injuries. A mob targeted and set fire to the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Leh and part of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Council building. The unrest is linked to demands for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. In response, the district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, prohibiting the assembly of more than four people. Sonam Wangchuk, who is leading a body of protesters, has appealed for calm. He warned that "violence will derail the fight for Ladakh’s rights."
