Ladakh Crisis: Leh Body Boycotts Talks; Wangchuk's Wife Calls Charges 'Baseless' | India Today News

Following protests in Ladakh where four locals died, the Leh APEX body announced it will boycott scheduled talks with the Centre on October 6. The body demands a judicial probe into the September firing, an apology for being labelled ‘anti-nationals’, and the release of Sonam Wangchuk. In an interview with India Today, Sonam Wangchuk’s wife stated the charges against her husband are entirely unfounded. She said, "these are absolutely baseless charges. The whole country has seen that for the past five years, he has been leading this movement and this protest in the most peaceful, in the most Gandhian way possible." She refuted allegations of financial wrongdoing and accused authorities of a deliberate campaign to frame him. Meanwhile, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah warned that a Leh-like situation must be avoided in the valley, stating that statehood is a promise to be fulfilled.
