Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s convoy was recently held up due to heavy snowfall and slippery conditions near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) intervened by deploying chains on vehicle tyres to facilitate movement in the high-risk terrain. During the incident, Rijiju criticised the infrastructure policies of previous administrations, stating, ‘roads were not being made in the border area in the previous government because there was apprehension that the adversary could use them.’ He emphasised that the current government’s ‘Vibrant Villages’ initiative focuses on building roads right up to the first villages near the LAC. The report highlights the challenging conditions faced by BRO personnel, described as the ‘braves’ who ensure connectivity in strategic border zones despite extreme weather.
