A political battle has erupted, with the BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government of negligence, claiming it ignored an IMD warning, which led to deaths. The Mayor of Kolkata, Firhad Hakim, stated, "you have to remove it slowly, you cannot do magic, this water is such a thing that you have to remove it slowly." The inundation has caused immense hardship for citizens, with traffic at a standstill and daily life disrupted. The situation is also threatening the upcoming Durga Puja festival, as preparations and pandals, particularly in southern Kolkata, are stalled by the floodwaters.
