Torrential rains have crippled Kolkata just days ahead of Durga Puja, leading to severe waterlogging, infrastructure breakdowns, and tragic loss of life. Seven people have died in rain-related incidents, while parts of the city-including metro and railway services-have come to a halt. The airport has been flooded, disrupting flight operations, with airlines like IndiGo issuing travel advisories. Mayor Firhad Hakim, calling it worse than the 1978 floods, said the administration is working on a war footing to manage the crisis. Pandal preparations, posh localities, and street-level neighbourhoods alike are under water, as Kolkata reels under record-breaking rainfall.
