Heavy rainfall lasting at least six hours has resulted in severe waterlogging across most of Kolkata, bringing the city to a standstill. Transport services have been completely suspended, including metro, railway, bus, and auto services. The situation has turned tragic, with a report that "total five deaths have been reported across the city so far after being electrocuted." One of the deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Babu Mandal, who was electrocuted after trying to hold an electric pole for balance on a waterlogged street. While the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is working to pump the water out, most shops remain closed and normal life is disrupted. Due to the inundation, Kolkata’s metro service has also been suspended or is running truncated services on certain lines.
