Rescue and relief operations are in their fifth day in Chishti village, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, following a massive cloudburst on Thursday that triggered floods and landslides. Joint teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central paramilitary forces are engaged in a challenging operation to find survivors. The priority for the teams is to trace the 70 to 80 people who are still missing and may be trapped under debris. So far, more than 60 bodies have been recovered, and 116 injured people have been rescued. The operation is hampered by difficult terrain, huge boulders that require cutters and explosives to be cleared, and inclement weather.
