A complete shutdown has been observed in Poonch to mourn the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and to protest against Israel and the US. Police and CRPF are on high alert to maintain law and order across Jammu and Kashmir. Khamenei was assassinated on 28th morning, with the report shared by the US President. Protests have erupted in several parts of the Kashmir valley, particularly among the Shia community. Yesterday, violence was witnessed at the bypass stretch leading to North Kashmir and Baramulla, prompting heavy deployment of security forces in riot gear at sensitive locations like Narbal choke. Authorities have imposed strict restrictions to prevent gatherings and protests, fearing escalation. The Badgam area witnessed protests at 10 to 15 locations. An MHA advisory has warned of potential violence, and security agencies are taking extreme precautionary measures to control any untoward incidents and prevent spillover to other areas.
