Meanwhile, Iranian media has reported that Mushtaba Khamenei, the second eldest son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been elected as Iran’s new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts. Mushtaba has long been seen as a potential successor and is considered politically influential with strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The funeral comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following the joint US-Israeli strikes that triggered an all-out armed conflict in the region.
