Kerala recently bid a tearful farewell to 10-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, who became the state’s youngest organ donor after being declared brain-dead following a tragic road accident. In a remarkable act of courage and humanity, her parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, consented to donate her organs, which have now saved the lives of five people, including a six-month-old infant in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Health Minister Veena George, who attended the funeral, praised the family’s magnanimity, stating, ‘It is such an act which shows love and care for humanity, which is a model for many others.’ The infant was laid to rest with full state honours as a mark of respect for this noble gesture. The report also highlights the critical shortage of organs in India, where over 82,000 patients are currently on waiting lists. Experts emphasize the urgent need for improved infrastructure and increased awareness regarding cadaver donations to address the donor rate of just one per million population.
