People in Nairobi take to the streets to protest against police brutality, as anger has reignited over the longstanding issue by the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody and the close-range shooting by police of vendor Boniface Kariuki during protests for Ojwang mid-June. Human rights groups have long called for action over illegal arrests, detentions and torture of government critics in Kenya. President William Ruto has vowed to end police brutality and said no enforced disappearances would happen during his administration. But Ruto’s interior minister told police to “shoot on sight” anyone who approaches police stations during protests, after five police stations were torched
