The Madras High Court has ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deadly stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The SIT will be led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg. The court strongly criticised actor-turned-politician and TVK chief Vijay, noting he showed no remorse and fled the scene, which the court said reflected on his "mental state". Describing the incident as "man-made," the court also slammed the ruling DMK government, accusing it of showing leniency towards Vijay. It questioned why a hit-and-run case was not filed after two-wheelers were caught under the TVK campaign bus. A TVK representative stated that the DMK government was trying to shift blame and expressed faith in the court-appointed SIT over the one-man commission established by the state, asserting that everyone from the administrative to the political level should be charged.
