A political blame game has erupted, with the state government and the event’s organizers, TVK, deflecting responsibility for public safety. The Madras High Court has heavily criticized both the TVK and the Tamil Nadu Police for the lapses. Taking a stern view of actor-politician Vijay leaving the location after the tragedy, the court questioned his leadership abilities, with a judge asking how a prospective chief ministerial candidate can "abscond from the place of incident". The court has now ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
