Following a stampede in Karur that resulted in 39 deaths, the Tamil Nadu government has increased police security for district secretaries of Vijay’s TVK party, fearing public anger. Three TVK leaders, including Vijay’s close aide, have been booked by the police. A blame game has erupted, with the TVK holding the local administration and police responsible for major lapses, including power cuts and the allocation of a small venue. One TVK district secretary stated, "We gave them 5 places. They specifically gave this place." The administration faces questions over allowing an estimated 50,000 people into a space designated for 10,000. While Vijay has issued statements on social media from his Chennai residence, he has not been booked. Both the TVK and the local administration are being held accountable for the tragedy.
