The Karnataka forest department is planning to halt the large-scale felling of trees for infrastructure and development projects. Instead of granting tree cutting permits on a kilometer-by-kilometer basis, the department aims to issue permits for the entire project at once. This new approach will be in exchange for suitable land provided under the compulsory afforestation program.
