Karnataka HC Halts Govt's Move To Shut Down Jan Aushadhi Kendras In State Hospitals

The Karnataka High Court has stayed the state government’s order to remove Jan Aushadhi Kendras from government hospitals. These kendras, part of the Prime Minister’s initiative, provide generic medicines at lower prices. The BJP has criticised the Karnataka government’s move, calling it ‘petty’ and arguing that it would have negatively impacted poor patients who rely on these outlets for affordable medication. The state government had claimed that the kendras might conflict with their free medicine distribution program. However, the court’s decision is being hailed as a win for the poor, ensuring continued access to cheaper generic medicines within government hospital premises.
