Karnataka govt withdraws cases against rioters despite DGP objection | Super Six | Akshita

The Karnataka government has announced a power tariff hike of 36 paise per unit starting April to fund pension and gratuity payments, as part of a series of price hikes to finance welfare schemes. The government has allocated 51,034 crore rupees for five guarantee schemes in the current budget, while facing a revenue deficit of 19,262 crore rupees and liabilities of 7,64,665 crore rupees. Additionally, the Karnataka government has withdrawn cases against rioters involved in the 2022 Hubli violence, despite objections from the state DGP and law department. This move has been criticised for setting a wrong precedent. Furthermore, the Siddaramaiah government has tabled a bill for 4% reservation for minorities in government tenders, which the BJP has termed as appeasement politics. Meanwhile, a gruesome murder case has emerged in Meerut, where a woman and her lover killed her husband.
