Karnataka Govt vs RSS: Row Erupts Over Officer's Suspension, BJP Cries 'Vendetta'

A political firestorm has erupted in Karnataka over the Congress government’s move to regulate activities of private organisations like the RSS in public spaces, with key figures like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister Priyank Kharge, and the BJP at the centre of the storm. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed allegations of targeting any single organisation, stating, ‘This rule was actually brought in by the BJP under Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar.’ The controversy was triggered by the suspension of a Panchayat Development Officer in Raichur district for participating in an RSS centenary event in uniform. While Minister Priyank Kharge had written to the CM urging for a ban on such activities in government institutions , the BJP has accused the government of political vendetta and pursuing an anti-Hindu agenda. The government has defended its stance by re-circulating a 2013 order from the then BJP government led by Jagadish Shettar, which restricted the use of school premises for non-educational activities.
