Talks of a power tussle in Karnataka’s Congress government have resurfaced following comments from Chief Minister Siddharamaiah’s financial advisor, Basavaraj Rai Reddy. Hinting at his own chief ministerial aspirations, Rai Reddy said, “Anybody can be a CM.” This was in response to speculation about Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar potentially taking over in November. While Karnataka Home Minister G. Parmeshwara stated Siddharamaiah will complete his five-year term, the BJP has weighed in on the infighting. A BJP leader noted the Congress high command itself is “divided in this case,” with one faction supporting Siddharamaiah and another backing Shivakumar. The BJP anticipates the situation might aggravate around November or December, potentially leading to a change of guard in the state.
