Karnataka MLAs from Congress and BJP have united to demand VIP access to IPL matches, seeking priority entry and special seating at stadiums. The demand was raised inside the Karnataka Assembly with MLAs complaining about not getting enough IPL tickets from the cricket association. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka questioned why legislators must pay Rs 20,000 for tickets despite the state giving land to the stadium at minimal rent. Congress MLA Vijayananda backed the demand, seeking at least five tickets per MLA along with separate seating and lounge access, stating legislators cannot stand in queues. Speaker UT Khader then asked the government to ensure minimum tickets are allocated, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar agreeing to distribute them. However, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya condemned the move, calling it entitlement and feudal thinking. He stated that demanding tickets as a matter of right for themselves and their families shows they do not respect those who elected them. The demand comes amid lingering concerns over crowd control and safety at packed venues.
