In Karnataka, a social and educational survey, also known as the caste census, has commenced. The survey aims to cover approximately 7 crore people across 2 crore households, with the process continuing until October 7th. The initiative has led to significant political friction, with BJP leaders accusing the Congress government of attempting to divide Hindus. One critic stated, "The Congress government in the name of caste census is trying to do dirty politics, trying to encourage conversion." In response to controversy over dual-identity caste names like ‘Vakaliga Christian’, the state’s Backward Classes Commission clarified these labels would be masked in the survey’s application, not removed, allowing citizens to self-identify freely. Meanwhile, influential communities such as Vakkaligas and Veerashaiva Lingayats have urged their members to be unified in declaring their caste and religion. #castecensus #karnataka #karnatakapolitics #bjp #congress #socialjustice #indianpolitics #castesurvey #vokkaliga #lingayat #hindu #conversionrow #politics #survey #backwardclasses
