On the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi addressed the nation, paying tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war. He confirmed that following the Pahalagam terror attack, the Indian Army launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the night of May 6 and 7, targeting nine high-value terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir without any harm to innocent citizens. General Dwivedi stated this action was a clear message, saying those who plan to harm India’s sovereignty and integrity "will be given a befitting reply and will continue to be given one in the future, this is the country’s new normal." The Army Chief also detailed the force’s modernization, including the creation of new all-arms brigades, the induction of drones into every infantry battalion, and the development of agile commando battalions and powerful artillery regiments to enhance combat capability.
