In an interview at India Today Conclave, Ambassador Yousef Abdelghani, Ambassador of Jordan to India, discussed Jordan’s position on the ongoing West Asia crisis. He emphasised Jordan’s commitment to peace, stating, ‘We don’t think that war will accomplish anything.’ Ambassador Abdul Ghani clarified Jordan’s neutral stance, saying, ‘We are neutral. We don’t support any side.’ He explained that Jordan’s Foreign Minister Safadi communicated to Iran that ‘we don’t want our airspace to be penetrated, whether from Iran or Israel,’ and that Jordan declared ‘any plane or missile penetrate our airspace, we’ll shoot it down.’ The ambassador addressed King Abdullah II’s custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and condemned targeting of civilian infrastructure. He highlighted the strengthening India-Jordan partnership, mentioning Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit and five MOUs signed covering renewable energy, cultural exchange, water resource management, and digital information. Ambassador Abdul Ghani announced Jordan’s intention to join the Solar Alliance, Biofuel Alliance, and Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Alliance, with plans to boost bilateral trade from $3 billion to $5 billion within five years.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026, Kamel Zayed Galal, Ambassador of Egypt to India, highlighted the urgent need to protect civilians during conflicts.
The ambassador referred to the Minab elementary school attack in Iran and the ongoing devastation in Gaza Strip and the West Bank, stressing that targeting civilian infrastructure violates international humanitarian law.
Galal pointed out that most victims in Gaza are women and children, warning that such tragedies must not be ignored by the global community.
A major concern raised by the ambassador was the lack of accountability in international politics, which he said allows some nations to behave as if they are above the law.
