Kaantha starring Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse has been making waves not just for its performances but also for its stunning visuals and story-telling style. Written and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, who wrote and directed the docu series, The Hunt for Veerappan, the movie is set in the 1950s Madras and is a murder mystery involving a superstar. Selvamani talks about why this subject caught his fancy and how he and producer-actors Rana Dagguabti and Dulquer Salmaan, worked on the project over two years. The young director says it is not inspired by the real life story of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar though it involves a superstar, a murder and a maverick police inspector.
