NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has captured a breathtaking new infrared image of the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51/NGC 5194), revealing stunning details never seen before. Unlike Hubble’s previous images, Webb’s infrared vision showcases warm dust, star-forming regions, and ionized gas in brilliant red, blue, and yellow hues. The image also reveals black ‘bubbles’ that provide a glimpse through the galaxy, exposing distant stars beyond. Located 31 million light-years away in the Canes Venatici constellation, this observation is part of the FEAST program, helping scientists understand star formation beyond the Milky Way.
