Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced the admission of a motion to initiate proceedings for the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma, a judge of the Allahabad High Court. The motion, submitted under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution, pertains to allegations of misconduct following a fire and the discovery of burnt currency at a New Delhi residence on March 15, 2025. In his address, the Speaker stated, "spotless character, unimpeded intellectual honesty are the foundation of the common person’s faith in the judiciary." Following the provisions of the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter. This committee comprises Supreme Court Justice Shri Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Shri Maninder Mohan Shrivastav, and Senior Advocate Shri B.V. Acharya.
