Julani Calls Upon International Community To Push For Lifting Of Sanctions Against Syria
The leader of the insurgent group that led the battle to topple the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday called for the international community to lift sanctions against Syria.
"Today the executioner has left, and the victim still exists in the country, so such rules should not involve the victim too. So, once the pretext is gone then the sanctions on Syria should be lifted," said Ahmad al-Sharaa, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader after meeting with the Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan.
Al-Sham said Turkey had offered to help Syria rebuild its infrastructure, agriculture, banking and industries.
"Turkey was a friend of the Syrian people where it stood with them since the start of the revolution, Syria will not forget that and we will build a strategic relationship that suits the future of the two countries."
He also emphasised that all weapons will be in the hands of the state.
