A stunning new image from ESA’s Juice spacecraft has revealed a glowing gas halo and two faint tails around interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS just days after its perihelion. Captured using the probe’s NavCam while en route to Jupiter, the photo shows the comet’s active plasma and dust trails despite the camera’s low resolution. The image was taken as Juice approached within 66 million kilometres of the fast-moving visitor, offering a rare look at an interstellar object passing through the solar system. ESA scientists say the brightness captured in the quarter-frame download hints at intense activity triggered by its close solar pass. With the full-resolution image expected in February, astronomers believe this early glimpse marks one of the most extraordinary comet photographs of the decade.
