Fresh violence erupted at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi following late-night clashes between student groups. The ruckus reportedly began during protests against a statement made by the JNU Vice-Chancellor. Left-leaning student organisations have alleged that members of the BJP-linked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) pelted stones at their demonstration, resulting in injuries to multiple students. Conversely, ABVP members claimed that ‘left goons’ wearing masks and armed with sticks and rods attacked students in reading rooms and study areas across various school buildings. One student representative alleged that a mob of hundreds forcibly locked academic spaces and threatened those studying inside. The university campus remains tense as both sides trade allegations of instigating the violence. Security presence was noted as students called for intervention to prevent further harassment. The situation follows a week of persistent protests by the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) demanding action over the Vice-Chancellor’s recent remarks.
