J&K News LIVE: Security Beefed Up In Udhampur After Encounter Underway Between Forces & Terrorists
An intense encounter erupted late Friday evening (September 19, 2025) between security forces and terrorists in the rugged Seoj Dhar forest area along the Udhampur-Doda border in Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on specific intelligence, joint teams from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and local police launched a search operation in the Dudu-Basantgarh belt, a known hideout for militants.
The firefight began around 8 PM when terrorists hiding in the dense forest opened fire on the search party. One brave Indian Army soldier sustained critical injuries during the initial exchange and was evacuated to the Command Hospital in Udhampur, where he succumbed to his wounds early Saturday morning, attaining martyrdom. Security forces believe 2-4 Pakistan-sponsored Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists are trapped in the area, with reinforcements including drones and sniffer dogs deployed to tighten the cordon.
Operations resumed at dawn and continue unabated, with no fresh contact reported yet. In response, security has been significantly beefed up across Udhampur district, including heightened checks on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and key routes to prevent any spillover. This incident marks another flashpoint in the region, following multiple encounters in the same belt over the past year, including the elimination of JeM commander Haider in June 2025.
