A political conflict has erupted over the flood tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has accused Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of “criminal negligence” following the deaths of 35 devotees in a cloudburst incident on the Mata Vaishno Devi yatra track. The Deputy CM alleges the yatra was not stopped despite high alerts for heavy rain. He stated, “if anyone is responsible for the deaths of these 30-35 people, it is L.G. Manohar Sinha sahab,” and has urged the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to conduct a high-level inquiry into the LG’s role. The LG, who is also the chairman of the Shrine Board, has stated that the pilgrimage was stopped before the cloudburst occurred.
