A cloudburst in Chasoti village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district triggered a devastating flash flood and landslide. The disaster struck pilgrims on the Machel Mata ki Yatra, a yearly religious pilgrimage. At least 42 people have been confirmed dead, with more than 100 injured, 38 of them critically. In response, authorities have halted the annual yatra. A survivor recalled the suddenness of the event, stating, "Then the cloud burst suddenly." The deluge, which carried large boulders and rocks, swept away numerous houses in the hamlet. Joint rescue operations are being conducted by SDRF, NDRF, local police, and administration teams, who have rescued 160 people so far. Teams continue to search the debris for missing individuals as relief efforts proceed.
