J&K: Body of Youth recovered from Kulgam Stream, Mehbooba calls for Investigation | India Today
In a deeply disturbing incident from Jammu and Kashmir, Youth’s body found in J&K’s Kulgam, Mehbooba calls for investigation has triggered political outrage and renewed scrutiny over police actions in conflict-hit regions. The youth, identified as 23-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmed, was allegedly picked up by police under suspicion of being an overground worker for the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. During the course of the investigation, police claim Imtiyaz was taken for identification at a location when he suddenly tried to escape and jumped into the Vaishow stream, eventually drowning.
According to police sources, drone footage exists showing a man—believed to be Imtiyaz—jumping into the fast-moving waters and being swept away. This drone video has now become a central piece of evidence in the police narrative. However, Imtiyaz’s family has strongly contested the official version of events, alleging foul play and demanding justice. They argue that the young man was in custody and that the explanation provided does not add up, especially in the light of a previous case where three Gujjar youths who went missing from Kulgam were also found dead in the same stream under mysterious circumstances.
