Aviation turbine fuel prices witnessed dramatic volatility, surging to over ₹2 lakh per kilolitre in several cities before being revised downward in a second correction. In Delhi, prices were brought down to around ₹1 lakh from over ₹2 lakh earlier. Similar corrections were seen in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. The government clarified that hiked rates would only apply to overseas flights and chartered, non-scheduled, and ad-hoc domestic flights, while domestic airlines would be charged a subsidised rate. The Petroleum Ministry revealed that state-owned oil marketing companies are losing more than ₹24 per litre on petrol and ₹105 per litre on diesel due to the crude oil surge. If these under-recoveries were passed on to consumers, petrol prices in Delhi would rise to ₹119 per litre and diesel to ₹193 per litre. The government has absorbed most of the burden, with only limited increases in flight fuel surcharges, commercial LPG cylinders, and premium fuel prices.
