Japan once again experienced the forces of nature tied to its geographic location when a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. The quake, which occurred at 9:19 PM, was recorded at a depth of 37 kilometers beneath the seabed. Shortly after, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Miyazaki and Kochi Prefectures, urging residents in coastal areas to evacuate to higher ground and stay away from the shoreline.
