Japan has raised a rare megaquake advisory after a 7.5-magnitude offshore quake near Aomori late Monday injured 51 people, damaged roads and buildings, and sent tsunami waves up to 70 cm high to parts of the northeastern coast. The Japan Meteorological Agency says the probability of a magnitude 8 or larger quake in the region over the next week has risen from about one in 1,000 to roughly one in 100, urging residents to stay prepared, review evacuation plans, and be ready for strong aftershocks and potential tsunamis.​
