The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) began their protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday. AIMPLB member Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas addressed the gathering, calling the protest peaceful and urging the administration to support it. He alleged that buses carrying protesters from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana were being stopped, adding, "The government need not be afraid and should listen to the voice of the people."
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also joined the protest. Owaisi, who was part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill, claimed that the ruling party’s amendments could lead to the dissolution of the Waqf Board.
Meanwhile, some Hindu organisations reached teh spot to declare there were alleged problematic slogans being chanted and further alleged that Jantar Mantar would be turned into Shaheen Bagh in what could be seen as a dig against the anti CAA protests which lasted for months in the Delhi locality.
