The legal battle over the film ‘Jananayagan’ has escalated to the Supreme Court. India Today’s Aneesha Mathur reports that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has filed a caveat, urging the court not to pass any order without hearing its side. This follows the film’s producers filing a special leave petition challenging the Madras High Court’s decision, which had stalled the movie’s release. The filmmakers state they ‘have invested 500 crores for this movie and we really cannot wait till then’. With actor-politician Vijay’s film at the centre of the controversy and also facing a CBI inquiry, the case carries significant political weight in Tamil Nadu. A potential hearing tomorrow could be a crucial day for Vijay, as public sympathy for him appears to be growing amidst these challenges.
